  30. More specifically SGI users have been enjoying *IrisGL*, which is the basis
  31. for OpenGL and was much more closely tuned and optimised for the SGI graphics
  32. hardware. OpenGL was developed by SGI to be "platform" independant and is now
  33. overseen and distributed by the OpenGL Arcitecture Review Board or ARB. Even
  34. today, most applications written for the SGI use IrisGL. Only as of the past
  35. couple years have SGI users had OpenGL libraries. Open Inventor, I believe was
  36. *THE* prototype use of OpenGL by SGI.
